Tomorrow is my wedding to a man who knows how to make me laugh. Although this groom-to-be texts from Houston—forgot setting alarm missed flight—no explanation, no remedy. No regrets.
Within 20 seconds, Mother’s screaming in his ear. Uncle Kell threatens to fetch him in the Cessna, then break both legs after the reception.
So he’s here—shaven, cologned, tuxedoed. Since when can’t you take a joke? I get hugged. From ceremonial procession to cake-cutting, all goes perfectly as planned.
Except I didn’t fool the iPhones. They prove what 24 hours of tears do to a face.

I didn’t understand the story at first by I read it again and I thought about it and I thought this was an amazing story you did a great job.
What a gem of a story. Brilliant.
Thank you for your feedback, Lori!
What a terrific little story! I find it amazing that the author was able to set up an intriguing plot and also provide at least two fully developed characters in under a hundred words. Terrific work!
Marilyn, I am glad you enjoyed this story…..
Shoshauna Shy’s bleak little story is remarkably effective– she’s somehow created at least 2, maybe 3 (Uncle Kell) three-dimensional characters in a mere 100 words. Amazing! I look forward to seeing more of her work in this genre.
