Famous

I see you. Frozen in that absurd pose, mouth wide and smiling, tongue hanging nearly to your chin. “Can you look any more bored?” I had asked, so sick of the same tired poses in front of those famous landmarks. I hadn’t expected that face to come. You hadn’t expected me to take your picture. It’s famous among my friends now, even if you’re not. I keep it on the wall, though I didn’t keep you. I kept that phrase, ever ready for use if I see someone staring dully into my camera. No one else has made your face.

Melanie Tarasovich lives on a micro-farm outside Savannah, Georgia, raising bees, bunnies, and things she never would have eaten as a child. Words, even just 100, are her joy.
