I’ve put a square on my head. It sits like
a plate, balanced and poised. Is it enough? Here is my robe, here my clothes, unseen underneath yet still appropriate. Isn’t that what life is: covering our raw selves, yet still preparing our insides for viewing? If they perform an autopsy on me, they must cut through all the layers: regalia and suit before exposing the skin and various internal cavities.
I wonder where the truth of me lies. Underneath it all? Or somewhere else, sitting neatly in a white folding chair?
Do I dare be anything other than this?
