Photo Story: Testing Mom’s Claims During Lunch at the Tail End of Our Final Family Vacation

Image of a child and two adults staring at a biscuit. They’re arguing again. Mom says she shouldn’t sit in the sun, that the service here is slow. She says we need to stop wasting money on disappointing meals. Dad gestures toward his empty dish and says, “maybe if you tried the pasta you’d be less on edge.” But Mom’s weariness has nothing to do with hunger. Before the trip, she told me how she’s lost Dad’s attention. How he hardly looks at her. So, I snatch the last roll from the basket and hold it nose-level between them. Mom watches him expectantly, but Dad only has eyes for the bread.
